Works for Me Wednesday - Smoothies

This will be a quick post, but wanted to share something we made last night (and we frequently make). My 4 year old LOVES Jamba Juice (who doesn't) but they are just to darn expensive. So last night when we got home I made up a big smoothie (strawberry, blueberry, raspberry and blackberry - frozen fruit from Costco) with some milk and a little bit of honey. We have a VitaMix machine so just threw it all in there with a carrot (yes a uncooked carrot - adds sweetness but no carrot taste). I poured both girls a glass and the rest I put into the plastic cups that you get from restraunts that come with a lid. I filled three other cups and put lids on - into the freezer they went for the next time she asks. Then I simply pull it out of the freezer and put in the microwave for 1 minute on 50% power. Stir it up and she is good to go. I meant to take a picture or two but forgot so.... no pictures!

Other things to add to a smoothie (by no means a complete list):
Banana
Peach
Yogurt
Cabbage (a small slice)
Pineapple
Cantaloupe
Grapes
Wheat Germ
Flax Seed
.... pretty much anything that tastes good before will taste good in the smoothie!

Whenever I have "extra" fruit that I don't think we will eat I freeze it to use for smoothies later.

Great idea about the carrot. I wonder if that will work in my Osterizer blender. My son loves smoothies, but he's not into ANY veggies, so I've wondered if I can hide some veggies in the smoothies. I also freeze fruit when it looks like we won't eat it before it goes bad. I have a great juicer, too, so I juice any lemons and oranges that are nearing the end of their shelf life.

Mmm...it looks yummy! :)

About the stramboli - I'm that same way with the store bought dough. I actually get the dough from an italian market my us (they're everywhere here in the Philly area) - it's homemade each monrning and rolls into balls for purchase...lthey even freeze well - we get tehm for everything!! You might want to check in your area to see if there's a bread or italian market where you can purchase homemade dough.
